Quito, April 2023.- Ecuador, leads the rates of chronic malnutrition and child (DCI) in South america, with 20.1% of children under two years of age are affected by this condition that impedes their progress in the long term. Recognizing the need to address this problem, Grupo Futuro signed a cooperation agreement with the Foundation REDNI (Network for Children's Nutrition), with the objective of ensuring the social development and the well-being of infants during their first thousand days of life.
According to REDNI, an organization that focuses on the prevention of DCI, the cost of malnutrition in Ecuador is 2.6% of GDP each year and has negative effects on the health, education and productivity, which impacts directly to the whole of society. “The countries that have the high rate of malnutrition, are countries that don't make it out of poverty and inequity, therefore, we seek to provide opportunities for vulnerable groups who may not have the resources nor the knowledge to ensure a proper child nutrition” highlights Sébastien Paque, Executive Director of REDNI.
Through this strategic alliance, Grupo Futuro will contribute economically and will work to strengthen the scope of the initiatives undertaken by the foundation in the city of Quito, where there are high rates of DCI, including the development of comprehensive programs of nutritional counseling, breastfeeding promotion, health care, food assistance and accompaniment. Currently, REDNI develops 15 territorial projects that have a positive impact in the life of 2000 pregnant women, nursing mothers and children and girls of the Equator.
